Sanity Assurance

February 14, 2010

A short drive away from the city.

My previous elation at the end of a storm was short-lived, as rain returned for another week, but the forecast is now showing sunny or partly cloudy through next weekend. One of the greatest things about San Francisco is its surroundings, how little you have to travel before you near the edge of the wilderness. In the word’s of Wallace Stegner:

We simply need that wild country available to us, even if we never do more than drive to its edge and look in. For it can be a means of reassuring ourselves of our sanity as creatures, a part of the geography of hope.

Perspective can be at times invaluable.
