@NewsomCampaign: The Time to Gamble Approaches

October 6, 2009

Given his relatively dismal poll numbers, Newsom needs to do something to differentiate himself Jerry Brown, to get some attention and give voters a reason to choose him over the reliable choice. The defining characteristic of the Brown campaign right now is its blankness – they have said nothing – so the best way for Newsom to differentiate himself would be to say, well, something. The campaign website is all about Newsom’s accomplishments as Mayor, which are significant and an important part of his candidacy’s argument, but he needs to start saying what he would actually do as Governor. So many issues are on Californians minds right now – the budget, employment, prisons, water, the environment – and both of the Democratic candidates are showing zero leadership. True leadership could show Newsom has what it takes to be Governor.

There are, of course, eight months until the primary but Newsom has a lot of ground to make up. He’ll have to make some leaps and bounds if he hopes to win in April.
