Whoa: Tsunami Alert?

From SFGate, the National Weather Service has issued a tsunami warning after after 8.3 magnitude earthquake struck near American Somoa. Although no evacuations have been ordered, people are advised to stay out of the water. Then this:

A tsunami with a wave height between 20 centimeters and 65 centimeters above normal tide levels is likely, the center said.

There needs to be a term that means ‘tsunami’ without conjuring images of waves cresting over oceanfront apartment buildings.
